don't know how many times I've said this, but I honestly couldn't get tired of saying it anyways. Yet another member of the U.S. Congress (Jerrold Nadler from the 8th District of New York) has become a co-sponsor for Barney Frank's Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act. Now making the grand total of co-sponsors 48, the momentum to overturn a decrepit and fledgling Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is picking up once again.

Largely sparked by a recent onslaught of criticism against the UIGEA by both the American Banking Association and Competitive Enterprise Institute, the magnifying glass has been pulled out and the UIGEA is getting a cold, long, and most importantly, unbiased look over. As a result, an increasing number of politicians are getting themselves educated about the true nature of online gambling regulation, rather than being told the horror stories of mass gambling addictions, underage bettors and cheating online casinos.

Congressman Frank, who chairs the influential House Judiciary Committee, recently held a Congressional hearing in which politicians, online gambling executives, financial institutions and legislators largely condemned the UIGEA, citing it's ineffectiveness at enforcing unrealistic and deficient protocols.

Any U.S. politician will agree that a dissection and deconstruction of the UIGEA is very much in order before any serious motions to pass online gambling regulatory legislation take place. In other words, before more co-sponsors step up to support the IGREA, they first need to see why the UIGEA is the not a sound solution and why it doesn't work in the first place.

As for Congressman Nadler, he makes for a solid addition to the UIGEA's co-sponsors. Nadler is Chairman of the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Subcommittee, which as you might suspect, oversees anything dealing with freedom of expression and personal privacy (not to mention freedom of religion, which was obviously not upheld in the passing of the far-right Christian inspired UIGEA). An adamant believer and advocate of upholding rights for American citizens, Nadler's motivations are just that.
