Casino Gambling Vote Could Draw Turnout In Iowa

Casino gambling is up for a vote in Jasper County, Iowa, today. The issue is sure to bring out a large amount of voters to have their say heard. At stake is a proposed casino in the area.

Iowa already has casino gambling in their state. They have seventeen state regulated casinos to go along with three American Indian casinos. That, apparently, is not enough for some people.

A proposal is being voted on today by people of Jasper County as to whether or not to allow for a new casino resort in Newton. The proposal, as with any casino proposal, has supporters and detractors.

Supporters of the casino point to the 600 jobs that would be available if the casino was built. That would be much needed employment for people in the area. It also would help the economy, with millions of people coming to the area to visit the casino.

While the state does already have over 20 licensed casinos, it has not had a new one in several years. Three years, to be precise, was the last time a casino license application was accepted by the state.

It is expected that a large amount of voters will turn out and help decide whether the casino resort should be built, or not.
